Mara Poliak is a dancer, artist, writer, curator, and teacher living in Oakland, California on unceded Ohlone land. They are a founding member of SALTA, an Oakland-based collective that hosted a free monthly mobile performance series for four years, and now organizes a yearly residency with a group of interdisciplinary artists at Dos Rios land project in Northern California. Mara teaches dance regularly at NIAD Art Center in Richmond, California, and has taught at universities, festivals, and dance studios including Beloit College (WI), Ohio University (OH), LJMU (Liverpool), Whitman College (WA), Creativity Explored, Creative Growth, FRESH Festival, The Finnish Hall, and The Dance Palace (CA).
Mara has collaborated and performed with artists including Abby Crain, Chani Bockwinkel, Jacqueline Gordon, Layton Lachman, Lucky Dragons, Margit Galanter, Samuel Hertz, and Tessa Wills. They have shown their work and been in residence at venues including CounterPulse, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, SFMOMA, and ODC Theater (San Francisco, CA), Djerassi Resident Artist Program (Woodside, CA), Performance Works Northwest (Portland, OR), Links Hall (Chicago, IL), Dock 11 and Ponderosa Tanzland (Berlin, Germany), My Wild Flag Festival (Stockholm, Sweden), and Tetley Art Museum (Leeds, UK).
